"Thanks so much for all that you do to bring smiles to lots of children in the Domasi area" - Jean Kalinga, Children's Hope Organisation
What do we do?
EducationWe run 4 schools - in Nsangeni, Chinyangala, Chimwaza and Mayera villages. We provide trained teachers, school materials and meals for students. We also sponsor students through school.
In 2018 we funded a Girls Education Awareness Programme which engaged 15,000 school students. And in that same year we celebrated our first ever pupil making it through university - Thocco graduated with a bachelors degree in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science. Thocco now works for our organisation as Communications Manager. We also organise and deliver health awareness days for the whole community, focusing predominantly on HIV/AIDS Awareness. |
Community ProjectsOur staff team organise community meetings twice a year. Within these meetings we listen to the needs of the people in our district, we then design projects based on what we hear.
In the last few years we have run a range of community projects. These have included:
|
Feeding ProgrammeOur feeding programme provides a nutritious bowl of porridge to every child who attends our morning nursery classes.
It also provides employment opportunities for women in our district who work as our cooks. We provide over 30,000 free meals to school children every single year. We have also run emergency feeding programmes in the past - providing whole community groups with support at crucial times e.g. following the devastating drought in 2017 and Cyclone Freddy in 2023. |
Emergency Response Programmes
While we are not an emergency aid organisation, we do occasionally have to run response projects. In 2020 we ran a Covid-19 Prevention and Protection Programme, achieving the following...
Handwashing1,426 households now have access to Tip-Taps (handwashing facilities) and we distributed over 7,000 bars of soap
|
Information1,426 households received vital advice and information on how to protect themselves and their families from Covid-19
Even now, in 2024, we are working alongside FHI 360 to distribute Covid-19 advice and resources. |
Masks1, 876 community members received face masks thanks to collaborations with Beyond Retro and CovCare
|
And sadly in March 2023, our community were very badly hit by Cyclone Freddy, which forced us to launch another emergency appeal. With your support, we were able to offer assistance to 184 households which makes up approximately 920 people.
